Hot & Happening

What's Hot & Happening this Weekend?

By FresYes Writing Team

We’re not sure why but that date in the title just slides off the keyboard really smooth. Yes, it’s September and the first of the month, duh! But seriously, compare that with a Hot & Happening that needs to span over 2 names of months and it just doesn’t roll so sweetly – and that’s using two of the shorter named months!

Did you get a chance to see that Super Moon? Wow! Watching it come up over the horizon was incredible! Remember that it was only 14% larger, but wow! You know why it’s called a Super Moon right? By the way, right now, we’re moving away from the Full Moon cycle and what you are seeing is called a “Waning Gibbous“. Not that you wanted to know, but scientifically that is when the lit part of the Moon is shrinking anywhere from 99.9% to 50.1%. That decimal point is important. More on that later.

Friday

Tonight the Bulldogs start their 2023 Football Season! Unfortunately it’s at Perdue and Indiana is pretty far away, but there is another Bulldog Game in town.

Women’s Volleyball is at the Save Mart Center. Volleyball? Yes, VOLLEYBALL!

DID YOU KNOW: Just the other day, no fewer than NINETY TWO THOUSAND people (92,000) packed a stadium in Nebraska for a women’s volleyball game. And yes, Nebraska has won five national championships in volleyball, and has sold out 306 consecutive regular-season matches, but those sold out games were in a regular volleyball arena – not the Football Stadium for the Nebraska State Cornhuskers! For comparison, the Save Mart only holds around 18,000, and that is at the most.

You do not need to know Volleyball. If you didn’t already know what a spike, block, or dig is, you will learn very quickly. Do yourself a favor and go see some exciting Volleyball Action. These women do not mess around – they are lightning fast and incredibly tough! Click HERE for tickets.

Fun Fact: The Libero is a defensive specialty position that is signified by one player who must wear a different-colored jersey from the rest of her team. The Libero plays in the back row and often receives the attack or serve. This player usually leads the team in digs and is typically fast and able to change direction quickly. They often times have the first touch and have to turn that into a good pass to the setter. But they do have restrictions: A Libero cannot block, set an attack from the front court, or attack the ball above the height of the net. They can also be subbed in and out of the game without counting against a team’s total substitutions. This rule is used strategically to sub a Libero in for a front-row player when the front-row player is rotated to the back, where they might be less effective. And while a team can never have more than one Libero on the court at a time, they do not need to field a Libero at all times. Watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7X9Z9Uzglc

Saturday

Saturday morning is going to be beautiful weather. When was the last time you popped into Yava Bakery? It’s been too long for us too. We’re craving something we normally wouldn’t. You’re thinking Pumpkin Spice right? Truth be told, they have a spiced coffee – their spiced coco mocha isn’t PSL but it is great!

And it’s not the perfect Avocado Toast either, although look at that!

Nope for us, and what we’re recommending to you, is the absolutely incredible, overly decadent, Salted Caramel Banana French Toast! We’d love to drop a picture of the dish below but you can’t handle it. You just can’t. But you deserve this, go to Yava!

Don’t Forget: Saturday Morning the FresYes Quiz goes live. Watch for it in your FresYes Insider. It’s just a few easy questions on stories we’ve recently covered. Again this week we’re giving away a gift certificate to Eureka! Home of the FresYes Burger!(we’ll keep trying).

Sunday

Last weekend we sent you to the Fulton Street Party. This weekend it will be a little quieter there. But did you like the cars? Pretty freaking cool! Did you miss them? Many of the same vehicles will be doing another at “Cars at the Pointe” so you get another chance!

Since you are already at The Pointe, and you probably just read Natali’s post on Mochinut – you can pop in for a Mochi Donut or even better a Korean-style “corn” dog!

A corn dog you say? That sound pretty basic!

Ha! We bet we can change your mind with just a single picture…
