Hot & Happening

What's Hot & Happening this Weekend?

By FresYes Writing Team

It’s a new year! Congratulations on making it this far with us! We’re happy you’re here! We’re excited about some of the projects we have planned for the coming year. We think you are really going to love them!

About this weekend…The weather is going to be mostly clear but who knows, it might get a little wet this weekend but we’ve got some great things lined up that will keep you warm and dry!

By the way, that moon up in the sky is called a Waning Crescent, meaning that each day it’s disappearing just a little more. If you need the math, on Friday it will be at 36%, Saturday at 26% and just 17% illuminated on Sunday! It’ll get slimmer and slimmer until Thursday where it will be at just 0.4% – or what we call a New Moon!

FRIDAY:

Picture this… It’s a large mansion – sitting up high on a bluff, part of a vast palatial estate just north of Fresno. Inside, in a dimly lit private bedroom, an elderly man looks to be on his deathbed. He’s holding a Birria Taco with a small cup of incredible dipping juice. He tilts his head to take a bite but instead he utters his last word, “FresYes“, and then dies. What the…?

Ok, so replace the Taco with a Snow Globe and FresYes with the word, Rosebud and you have Citizen Kane! Probably one of the best movies of all time! It’s a 1941 American drama film directed by, produced by, and starring Orson Welles. The picture was Welles’ first feature film. Hey that sounds a lot like Rocky! (but it’s not)

It’s playing tonight at The Crest in all it’s glory!

DOORS open at 7PM MOVIE 8PM. TICKETS $5.Oh and bring cash!

Sidenote: You’ve probably heard of that other thing he did – War of the Worlds? That was the radio broadcast that freaked a whole bunch of people out and later became a movie or two? The radio thing was part of Orson Welles’ radio show called The Mercury Theatre Show. The really fun thing is that he didn’t write it – it was another wells that did. A totally different guy named H. G. Wells! Cool? Win a bet, impress a date… do what you want with that information. But now that you know that – what does Rosebud mean?

SATURDAY:

Foghorn String Band, all the way from Portland, Oregon in the good ol’ USA, shines as a revered old-time string band along the West Coast. Known for their serious dedication to the roots of old-time tradition, these folks blend high-spirited Appalachian dance tunes with the sweet sounds of traditional mountain fiddle melodies. The group has performed at festivals all over the world and tonight they are at The Tower!

High spirited Appalachian? What does that sound like? Try this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GKw-7rPgMk or for something a little faster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD7IElP8USs
